There are people who will attend events to ambush attendees with some type of request for help or assistance with a story of sympathy and sadness, which may be true or a lie. This is not something people anticipate at a business event, but it happens. This can happen with an individual for or a group (typically a charity).
These encounters can create moments of awkwardness that push people to make decisions they would not normally do. These interactions are beyond what is expected when making business introductions.
